Good things come in small packages.
That six-inch-square, 149-page coffee break from author Austin Kleon is a work of unassuming genius.
Steal Like An Artist steals your attention, and your fear.
Over-thinkers who’ve shunned detailed texts on creativity will be sideswiped by Steal. The coulda/woulda/shoulda defense is no match for the soft-selling Mr. Kleon. A conversational low-key tone throughout this uplifting read should have any level of would-be author eager to write more and whine less.
I’ve written before about savoring worthwhile quotes, but knowing the best quotes might be from that person in the mirror. Although the author quoted everyone from The Holy Bible to music’s Jay-Z, I think the most meaningful quotation came from Meghan Kleon, wife of the stealer.
“One time I was up late on my laptop and my wife yelled me, ‘Quit picking fights on Twitter and go make something!'”
As a good, smart husband, he added that she was right.
You’re ready to be a writer NOW. Austin Kleon (and his wife) know. I know.
Shrug off the skeptics. They’ve stolen enough of your hope. Have fun creating again. There’s an idea worth swiping, and sharing.
