Thanking Roger Ebert

Last week, I extended a thumb heavenward.

Roger Ebert’s death at age 70 moved me. Initially, my thoughts began over how this movie reviewer extended my own life. How many days would I have spent enduring so-so movies, if not for his blunt honesty?

Most importantly, his final years delivered an epic review of the future. As others despaired over how cancer claimed his speaking ability, Ebert spoke like never before in his writing. Speech is only one way to shine a light, to make a connection.

Roger Ebert knew, too.

Words matter.
