When Bob Scheiffer Believed…And Made History

Enterprising reporter Bob Scheiffer got mistaken for a police detective often in the early 1960s.

He was a young reporter. A hopeful reporter.

No one else in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram believed the woman on the phone. She needed a ride to Dallas.

Her name was Marguerite Oswald. She had to get there that day. She needed to see her son, who was accused of shooting the President.

Others asked why, then hung up. Bob Scheiffer’s “why not?” allowed him to give the world one chapter of an event that keeps the world buzzing 50 years later.

How do you fit into the story?

Sure, fate might not put the mother of a history-maker on the line with you.

There’s one voice you’ll all hear. Will you listen when that call comes? Will you respect, trust and believe, or talk the voice out of all possibility?

But, whose voice will it be?

Your own.
