When A Shrug Saves A Writer

I visited a new shop in Boone, Iowa, a lovely placed called “Old, New & Things 2 ReDo.”

Owner Michelle Riesberg offered a free bonus with the two Easter figurines I purchased.

Free inspiration.

I told her how amazed I was to see a shop open on Monday in town. For some mysterious reason, small businesses all seem to close Mondays.

Michelle pointed at the U.S. Post Office next door. She told about seeing so many customers there on Mondays.

Essentially, her decision to open Mondays when few others do boiled down to two words:

Why not?

Tradition. Status quo. A lack of a precedent. Not good reasons to be the same.

Be different. Be you. Write differently. Customers, readers and others are waiting to join your party.
