What Kind Of Artist Statement Would Vincent van Gogh Blog?

VanGoghVincent van Gogh wrote in letters that he considered portrait painting “practical.” He wrote a fellow painter that it was the “thing of the future.”

However, van Gogh didn’t blather on for pages about the inner meaning, motivation and philosophy of his paintings.

He painted.

Painting. Writing. Creating. It doesn’t matter. Fight the urge to go all artsy-fartsy on the world. Let the curators curate and the gallery owners sell. The world has too many hypnotic tour guides, bullying readers or viewers to think or feel a certain way.

Less is more. Don’t take one page, or even one paragraph. Tell why you made it in one good sentence.

That’s a creation in itself!
