Joanna Daneman is a rock-star among Amazon.com customer reviewers.
Check her out. Or, “review” her work.
I think any good review should have three elements:
For the first two, I wish more reviewers wouldn’t dwell on the “what” of a book or play. I see mammoth reviews that drag on, all due to the desire to include an exhaustive checklist of microscopic chapter detail.
Reviewers should be like umpires. For #2 and #3, give a personal opinion. Did this creation WORK? Most importantly, did it work for YOU? How did this creation change you?
Don’t be a spoiler. Be a tour guide. Preview what the reader/viewer might feel at the end of the book or when the curtain falls. Your experience matters. Share it.
